Time Flys When You are Having Fun

Where did the morning go? You would think that if I got up at 330am and was on the computer by 400am there would be more than enough time to check some emails, review finances, and blog. Not really sure what happened this morning …. was working on some finances and got lost in some details. Next thing I know more than 1 hour had passed. So …. let the fingers begin typing.

Going 90 to nothing at the office working on the emergency plan … although I am SUPPOSED to be 100% dedicated to the project, I can’t get away from the barage of emails and people at my door asking for “just 5 minutes”. I knew this would happen and it is a challenge I must manage. As for the rest of the “special team”, there is 3 of them. I am contributing more than all three combined. Doesn’t surprise me. One challenge is that I JUST received the Dec-06 update on the emergency response guideline … yes, this is May … what is your point? It is 451 pages long …. I am digesting it as fast as I possibly can. And, I must complete the review of it by Monday. Next Wednesday I am going to hold a meeting/training session with about 40 people, trying to garner support/help – this is the achilles heel for the process – trying to get 22 departmental submissions on time and in good quality. As for the training session – I haven’t written the materials yet … its not like I’m procastinating … its just that I’m under an incredible timeline and deadline and I’m working the “critical path” items as the come up.

The other key challenge on the above, is that many folks think that once they go through this process they are done … WRONG. Actually, this just sets the framework for their next steps. The next steps are a longer term issue, and one I am not able to manage (ergo, it ain’t my job). I have already started highlighting this (softly) to the organization. At the end of the day (figuratively speaking) somebody is going to have step up to the plate and take ownership of this process.

Notwithstanding the “fun” at work …. we are going to the family reunion. Still not sure what to expect. I’m bringing my 451 pages of reading material. I will work on that in fits and starts … and if I get too much “pressure” from the family I will use “work” as an excuse to recluse myself.

Decy is reading a book called Eragon. Although she has read many magazines in English she has never read a book in English. This is tough on her … and I looked at the writing style. It is really tough … guys “hurling” things …. while fighting with swords they were “sidelining” …. yuk !!! Oh well, if she can make it through the book it is a major accomplishment. I recall my days of reading books in Spanish – the first was extremely painful. After that, it was much better and the vocabulary kept improving ….

Well, I am out of time … don’t expect another blog from me until probably your Sunday morning …. that is, if you live in the US …. ciao ciao
