Hump Day ! ? !
So …. today’s Wednesday. Should feel like hump day – should feel like I’m making progress. But, it doesn’t feel like anything. Last weekend was a complete loss …. worked some everyday …. never even left the house after I got home Thursday night. Then two days (Mon, Tue) frustrating work …. came home last night and just went to bed … I needed sleep more than I needed dinner.
Up bright and early again on Wednesday – feeling blah ! I have meetings pretty much all day, which means I won’t get a chance to work in any of my projects – several new ones that have been dumped on me this week.
As if the base workload isn’t enough, I’m starting to get emails from Angola – again. This time it sounds like they have really screwed up the computer models. Based on what I can tell (a) they’ve changed methodologies in the model … and they probably shouldn’t have, and (b) the change has broken the logic such that the circular reference calculations now diverge instead of converge. Now, they seem to be proposing a new change in methodology so that they get convergence. Problem is – I think they don’t understand the issue – the issue is the MODEL (not the conceptual methodology) – its like saying … geeh, the water in the bathtub is cold … so I need to drain the water … and throw away the baby … so I can put warm water in the tub ….
What worries me about the above is that they may not have enough “horsepower” in Angola to figure out what they screwed up much less how to fix it. And – I do not have to time to fix their problem … which might require weeks of effort. Stay tuned ….
