God, Overwhelmed & Other Things
Yesterday (Sunday), Decy, Chely, Thasya, Decy’s mom, and I went to church. It is the one that Decy has been checking out. I THINK it is aligned with AoG but am not absolutely sure. The music was quite good (J, C, P would be able to relate to it). The only song I recognized was a rendition of “Amazing Grace”. Unfortunately, the sermon was only so so. This was “Life Groups” weekend – so the whole discussion was on the importance of the LG. LG’s are like “home churches” in support of the overall church. However, there was a message in there. I fully expect we will be back. They have a membership of 1300.
After church we went to the 4 Seasons Hotel for Sunday brunch. There we celebrated Chely’s 19th Birthday Day. We all ate a lot – and then they brought a complimentary BD cake (which we put in a box to bring home). Chely opened some presents then we came home.
I am quite tired and can’t seem to get enough rest. During the week, I push push push. Then on the weekend, I am not able to rest/recover. We went out Friday night – 1st time in 2 weeks. Then on Saturday afternoon I got on the treadmill – did 100 minutes, 12.5 kms, and burned 615 calories. Collapsed on Saturday evening (we didn’t go anywhere). Then of course, there is the Sunday activity mentioned above – after we got home on Sunday approx 4pm – I crashed. Woke up about 730pm, visited with Decy until 10pm then back to bed.
Work is relentless. I continue to fall behind and September is going to be a “crushing” month. There is so much to do … and although our staff numbers are up (2 new hires) – and they are helping out – there are just certain things that only I can do because of my experience level. Its getting overwhelming – and I have to work hard to not have a “panic attack”.
In addition to the above, it feels like I am getting about 10 emails a day from the school (actually probably closer to 20 a week) and that is distracting me … and some emails are requiring responses and are associated with Chely’s college plans. Last week had 1 meeting at the school, for which I had to leave work early. This week there are TWO meetings – for which I have to leave work early. So, this doesn’t help.
I’m reaching the point where I have to find other ways to relieve stress, which takes even more time.
Next Saturday Decy and I (maybe some other folks) are going to run from my office building to our home (approx 10 kms / 6 miles). We are doing it – just for fun – and to relieve stress. It will no doubt be a combination run/walk. We are even having t-shirts made. We will get up early and leave the house approx 5am … and start running to home around 530am – that is to (a) get ahead of the traffic and (b) be at a time when it is cooler (sort of). No doubt, we will NOT go out the night before …. nor on Saturday night.
Then, on Sunday morning there is a special run for Charity (fight cancer) that leaves from the 4 Seasons Hotel. It is either 5km or 10km. Decy, Chely, Decy’s mom, and I signed up for that. We will do the 5 km (especially after the Saturday run). Decy’s mom (64 YO) will ride a bicycle. This means we will miss church. But all this running is healthier than (a) going out at night, and (b) going on a hash.
Well, need to close as it is almost time to leave for work. It is ALREADY 524am.
