Miscellaneous Items
Last Friday I almost missed a critical security-related email at work because it came just minutes after I shut down my work PC (to take it home). Fortunately, my colleagues brought me a printed copy as I was walking out the door. Thus – decision made – I’m getting a Blackberry for work. If I am going to play a key role in the security of our employees I have to have 24/7 connectivity to email.
Last night, I missed another critical email – and was already home. Thankfully, a different colleague called me (one who had a Blackberry) and then forwarded the email to my home addy. I then spent until 9pm working the issue. I’ll be glad with the Blackberry arrives – hopefully soon – this is too close for comfort for me.
On a different note, Decy now has braces. We have been working thru all the challenges and issues with her teeth. She has very good and very strong teeth. Its just that her dental care from years ago was poor. We had to pull 1 tooth; then put spacers in places where teeth were pulled years ago. Now the braces are in (as of yesterday). The braces will both straighten her teeth and move them enough so that where the spacers are there will be a place for new teeth. Then in approx 2 years, all going well, she will have implants in the open spaces (back by the molars). It will be a long process, but given the quality of her teeth – it is worth it.
On a very positive note – I received a letter of appreciation from my company – complete with a 3,000,000 gift for either dinner or groceries – worth about $330. It was for all the hard work I did in May/June on the emergency plan. It was a real morale booster.
And on another positive note – Some of my work (again) has made it around the world and to the highest levels of the corporation. And, my name was clearly attached to the work. One comment in the string of emails (made by a high level executive) made me feel exceptionally good. He said “I am impressed with the candor and clarity of the message”. It is not often words like that are spoken/written.
…. ok – so, I’ve got the praise – now, if only I can get the raise …. he he he …..
