Finally 15++ … and other things
After a couple of months of weekend running on the treadmill I finally broke 15kms in 100 minutes – which is quite a feat for a turtle. I am clearly not a runner and VERY clearly not a good runner. I have a tendency to just plod along. But, for those who are interested …. I took off running at 8kms/hr and ramped up to 10kms/hr within 2 minutes. Took the incline to only 1%. Held steady there and hit 5kms at 30min 20sec. Decreased the incline to flat at about 40 minutes – but maintained the 10km/hr speed until about 48 minutes. I was winded and my heart was racing a bit, so I backed down the speed to regroup. Slowly cranked the speed back up and was at 9kms/hr before 60 minutes cum time. I hit my 10km distance at 63 minutes. Hung in at 9kms/hr up until 85 minutes. Hit 15km distance at 97 minutes …. closed out at 15.3kms, 901 calories, 100 minutes. Splits for each 5kms were: 30minutes 20 sec, 32 minutes, 34 minutes.
Hardly seems like I had the weekend off. Clearly too much work. Yuk. This week I have a number of issues to address, including a presentation that I must write. There are also some things that have been sitting on my desk for a month – hopefully, I can address those. I am clearly overworked and the group is understaffed. Sadly, its just going to get worse over the next few months … and right into and through 2008. Uggh.
On a better note, all the staff are now back and working. They have completed their “home trek” for Ramadan safely. Nunung was the last to return and made it back around 3am on Sunday morning. This is good …. yeah … as (a) Decy’s family had been helping to keep the house running smoothly (no easy task) and (b) Tini (who was the only full time staff here for 10 days) was getting very tired.
Chely completed here TOEFL exam on Saturday. She says it went much better than the 1st attempt and was glad she took the test twice. I know from her feedback earlier, the verbal listening and response was very frustrating the 1st time as she wasn’t sure what she was supposed to do. All college entrance exams are now done.
Chely is actively working on her applications and I am pulling together financial information to demonstrate “adequate resources”. Our goal is to have everything done before the December break. Getting feedback early from the Universities will be key as Chely will need to get a student VISA …. and here in Jakarta the lead time on that has typically been 3 months ….
We are starting to make plans for the Christmas Holidays – much to do there … as not only are we going to organize a road trip for when Chris and Paul come in … but we are also going to have an open house for the bro’s/sis’s, nieces/nephews, etc. The open house is a big deal and lots of preparation required.
Also, some friends of our from Angola are vacationing in Indonesia. They arrive Jakarta Saturday night then leave very early Monday morning. They will snorkle for awhile in eastern Indonesia … then come back to Jakarta in early November. While here the second time we will take them over to Bandung (a city about 3 hrs from here) to see a semi-sleeping volcano.
Well, that’s about it today … need to take care of some other things … ciao ciao
