Short but SWEET !!!
David and Janet Lofquist (our US friends currently working in Sakhalin Russia) are here. In a few minutes I take them to the airport. They will go sailing and snorkeling for 12 days then return on Friday the 9th … spend the weekend with us then … and go back to Russia.
In the meantime, a few blogs back I was bemoaning the lack of recognition at work for my contributions. And talking about how long the wait is to see good performance reflected in salary treatment. Some of this was a “historical” perspective. But also, a lot of it had to do with the fact that I was due for a raise but nobody talked to me …. so I thought my raise was being delayed for “performance reasons”. That was very depressing. Anyway, it appears that somebody FORGOT to tell me I received a raise on 1-October. I only learned about it when I saw my 31-Oct paystub.
Bottomline on the salary treatment – although quite a bit of the raise was driven by competitive factors (that is other oil companies giving big raises, so we need to do so also to remain competitive) – it appears that the recognition of my contribution is making its way to the “bottomline”. And, the bottomline is that I received a 13% increase (unless there was a mistake or I’m missing other factors). I have never received a salary increase this large both in terms of percentage and total dollars. It is an absolute shock to the system … and took me about 2 hours to sort out in my mind on Sunday … he he he … I had gotten up at 6am on Sunday to do some work …. and saw this surprise. Still got some work done, but was clearly distracted.
Gotta go.
ciao ciao
