Approx Halfway There

Words cannot possibly express the frustration of being here in Aceh. I disrupt my work schedule, I am away from my family, sleeping and working arrangements are less than optimal – hot, crowded, my back hurts from poor chairs and beds.

But the breaker for me is the overall lack of focus on the team that is supposed to be doing the work … there are 4 people assigned to this work …. besides the two of us “helping out” from Jakarta. I spent all day flying in Monday. On Tuesday, of the 4 only 2 were in the “gang room” at any given time in the morning. One showed up at 3 pm. One was there for 1.5 hours in the mornng, then didn’t come back until 3pm (and I saw her talking on her handphone for an hour – similar to the last trip). Of the other two – one is doing the best he can – but seems to have other daily responsibilities.

Next week a BIG box of information has to be sent to the auditors. They were absolutely clueless about how to organize, sort, copy. We were doing that for them yesterday. And, I spent most of the day organizing a report of some work that they did – it took 5 hours just to sort it out … never did get a chance to review its “content” as the “format” was so screwed up.

I just want to go home … I just want to work on something where I feel appreciated … I just want to be with Decy.

Other than the above, all is “fine” here. Over the past week there have been quite a few earthquakes conceptually nearby, but no damage or issues here. I think most of the quakes have been 5.5 to 7.5. Actually, I prefer having a series of “small ones” as that has a tendency to reduce the stresses. When you don’t have these … then you are faced with the bigger ones – like 8.4 last September and 9.0 back in 2004.

Ciao ciao … need to work.
