Big Wheels Keep On Rolling ….

And here we are … facing another week. Good news … I only have 5 days in the Jakarta office before I leave on vacation. Bad news … I only have 5 days in the Jakarta office before I leave on vacation. Of course, I’m not leaving this coming weekend … first, I have to go to Aceh yet again. And then, there is all the work before I even get to this coming weekend.

At times I’m amazed my company does as well as it does financially and operationally. Case in point – over the weekend I received an email from HQ outlining an initiative to assess our emergency preparedness (that’s a good thing). They picked 33 representative countries to assess, representing 90% of our world staffing (another good thing). Then, they asked us to complete a questionnaire (that’s ok). Unfortunately, what goes along with that is (a) they show two different deadlines, (b) they advise that any questions that aren’t answered correctly represent a “gap” and we must immediately put in place a corrective action plan, (c) the questionnaire assesses our emergency plan against criteria that have never been communicated to us [Note: our current plan is in full compliance with the most recently released criteria - circa 2006], and finally (d) they want the response before I return from vacation …. which means, yep, you guessed it … I have to do this work …. THIS WEEK …. ARRRGGGGHHHH …. its not like I don’t have anything else to do this week !!!!

On to more “fun” stuff ….

Friday after work, before going home I went and checked out a house that Terry and Samantha were looking at. Hmmm, very nice. I won’t go into all the details but let’s say it is consistent with his executive status. Afterwards, we stopped for a drink to talk about houses and furniture and that kind of stuff. Then we got pulled into a dinner with them and another couple. Then we stopped by a place where a friend was celebrating his birthday. Finally got home around 230am ….. that was NOT the plan … I was still in my work clothes.

Saturday, I worked all day from home.

On Sunday morning Decy and Thasya went and helped Terry and Samantha buy mattresses for their 3 beds (for their future house). While there they bought Thasya a really cute stuffed Teddy Bear. He he he …. lucky Thasya.

As for me, Sunday morning, I got on the treadmill and took off “running” … I messed up at 52 minutes and accidentally pulled the emergency plug and shut everything down …. which really messed up my rhythm. But, I re-set the machine and took off again. I didn’t do very well … but by the time I hit 100 minutes (between the two sessions) I was up to 14.2 kilometers … I ran another 10 minutes … and ended up with 15.5 kms.

Sunday afternoon we had 5 of our SAP programmers over. A frenchman. An irish man. An irish (gaelic) woman now living in Australia. Two Americans. We had a good evening of talking, snacking, dining, karaoke. Decy in her usual way cooked an excellent dinner (actually the staff cooked most of the food and she directed them).

On a different note, and before I close, Chely has had her 2nd wisdom tooth pulled. Two down – two more to go. As the teeth come out there is more room for the braces to do their thing. The 2nd tooth extraction did not cause much swelling and Chely hardly missed a beat from it. Yesterday she looked at me, and said …. “You know, I’m ready for the 3rd tooth. Wish we could do it right away”. WOW !!! what a change versus 4 years ago. Chely’s schedule is really tight this week, so accelerating the next extraction probably doesn’t work. However, #3 is scheduled to be removed on Monday the 21st.

With that, I will close. I need to work on some other stuff.

Ciao ciao
