Here we go again
Ah, “good old” Monday morning. Interesting that something so unenjoyable happens so often. In fact, it happens once a week, 52 times a year, approx 1,500 times in a working career. Notwithstanding that it is a Monday morning, I did spend a very enjoyable weekend with Decy and Thasya – even if it wasn’t exactly relaxing.
Friday night was a quiet night and we just crashed at the house. On Saturday morning we went to the school in Ciputat and had our company VIP (Volunteer Involvement Program) with a local school. There we commemorated the building refurbishments we did, donated 7 computers with UPSs, and interacted with the children for the day. There are about 700 kids that attend this 8 room school. Approx 500 were scheduled to be there on Saturday and perhaps 350-400 showed up (mostly in the morning … with the afternoon thinly populated). It was a great time of interacting and sharing with the kids. I was in two sessions, while Decy and Thasya were together but in two different sessions than me.
The kids wanted me to share a story …. so I did with the help of a translator. Actually, I pieced together a number of events in my life and focused on the importance of education. Clearly, what I did on Saturday with the children was far more important than anything else I did at work the entire week.
Because the afternoon had much lower attendance, there was an over abundance of volunteers in the afternoon. Decy and Samantha were in a walkway taking a breather and about 50 kids were there milling around. They were students from grades 1-2 at the school, but weren’t scheduled to attend because we didn’t think we could handle 700 kids in 1 day (grades 3-6 were scheduled to attend, grades 1-2 were told to stay home). Decy and Samantha visited with the kids and then Decy went and played games with them. Because of the “no shows” that were supposed to attend, there were a number of leftover goodie bags and snack bags. So, Decy, Samantha and the other volunteers gave those to these kids, told them stories, and played games with them.
Speaking of work – it is now official – we have received the Production Audit report – all segments were Satisfactory, overall opinion was Satisfactory. Yahoo !!!!!
After the school event on Saturday, Decy, Thasya, and I crashed. Decy slept. Thasya watched TV. I just sort of zombied out but never could fall asleep. Later, we cleaned up and went to the Hotel Menara Imperium and had a quiet dinner at the revolving restaurant on the 35th floor. We all crashed (asleep) on the way home.
As for Sunday, Decy and Thasya took it easy around the house all day. As for me, I got on the treadmill and tried my best … but, given that I hadn’t done any running in 6-7 weeks … my best wasn’t very good. I struggled to reach 13.6 kilometers over the normal 100 minute period. BUT, I didn’t give up !!! Afterwards, we ate and rested. Decy watched the TV series “Ugly Betty” which had a “marathon” going all day while I tried to read and relax. I did some – but probably should have taken a nap.
After dinner, Decy and I opened our new and very special bottle of scotch that she brought last week. It was a single malt Singleton … 32 years old … numbered edition. It was incredible. A strange combination of sweet and smoky flavors – with the sweet hitting the front of the palette and the smoky hitting the back. It was incredibly good and smooth. We took just one shot each. The rest will be saved for another special occassion (Sunday’s occassion was to celebrate the audit results).
Well, I need to close this blog. Need to shut down my company computer …. get it ready to take to work; and, need to transfer some money to Decy so she can pay the staff and take care of some month end bills.
Ciao ciao
