The Ragin’ Cajun
The first time that Decy ever ate crawfish was in 2002 when she came to visit me in Houston right before I transferred to Angola. Since that time we have never been back in Texas or Louisiana during crawfish season. Thus, for years Decy has been asking me when she can eat crawfish again. Now that she is in Dallas (and Monday going to Houston) she will be where there is fresh crawfish and while it is in season. I know that she has eaten it at least once since her arrival. She said it was “soooo good”. But, apparently her tummy was fighting her on that. I think it was as much a factor of just having flown in from Indonesia as it was the spice. No doubt in my mind she will try it again at least one more time.
Had a relatively quiet weekend here in Jakarta. Worked all day Saturday (9am to 8pm) but it was a combination of work and personal stuff, including my income taxes. Good news is that it was done in the leisure of my own home. Tried to get some sleep, but not sleeping well with this cold I’ve caught (as well as missing having Decy next to me). Plus, on Saturday night Decy sent me an SMS and needed me to find some paperwork on her rings that we keep in the safe (Zale’s needed it for doing some service work on her rings). I found the paperwork – that was at about 1 am – then waited to hear if there was anything else she needed. I feel asleep at my desk (at home) and woke up at 3am ….. crawled into bed and slept until about 9am.
On Sunday, I got on the treadmill to run. Given my cold and congestion, I knew that I could not run hard or fast. But, a) I wanted the exercise and to burn off some steam, b) I thought the sweating might help fight the cold. Thus, I took off at a slow trot (8kms/hr; 5 mph) at 2% grade. As my lungs and heart adapted, I slowly worked the speed up to 8.7 kms/hr. I had set a goal for myself to run at least 16.5 k, which is 10 miles. I knew I wouldn’t make it at the above pace in 100 minutes (when my treadmill automatically shuts off) so I knew I was going to have to do a “reset / restart”. I stayed at the 2% grade for the 100 minutes (14.1 kms). At the reset, I went to a level grade and 8 kms/hr … slowly working back up to 8.3 kms/hr. Finally stopped after 123 minutes, 17.2 kms, 1050 calories. Then went downstairs, laid on the floor, and feel asleep.
The rest of the afternoon was spent putzing around on Decy new Acer computer and watching a couple of movies on TV.
Well family, friends, and whoever else might read this blog …. I need to close for today. Need to eat breakfast (cereal and banana) and do some work before heading to the office at 530am.
ciao ciao
