Two Blogs in One Weekend?
…. will wonders never cease???
First, about the rain and flooding in our house yesterday – I found the source. As I thought, the rain came in from the upstairs patio – into the exercise room – thru the ceiling – into the office. Thanks God nothing was damaged. We could have lost thousands of dollars in electronics. So, what was the culprit? Well, it seems that we have a big planter on the outside of the patio. When it rains heavily, the drain in the planter (ahem) starts “draining.” Draining that is … on to the patio (not out into the front yard). Then as the water pools in the patio it drains to the yard. The rain yesterday was incredibly strong. Thus, the patio drain could not keep up – water level built up – and found the path of least resistance (under the door). A tip of what was going on was from a mud pattern on the patio. Today, it started raining heavily again (but not as heavy). I went and checked out the patio. And, lo and behold …. there was the same pattern (water flowing in from the planter). Now to talk to the house owner about fixing that.
Decided to go running today on the treadmill (similar to most weekends). Didn’t really feel like running and my body was dragging a bit. However, I was able to run 15.6 kms in the 100 minute limit on the treadmill. After that, I reset the machine and took off again (after drinking some extra water). When it was all over with, I had run 175 minutes, burned 1450 calories and traversed 25.6 kms. Why 175 minutes and 25.6 kms? Why note 180 minutes? or 26 kms? I don’t know. I had to stop somewhere and I was getting tired. Afterwards it took me about 45 minutes to cool down. My legs have been wobbly ever since. Gee, I wonder why?
*** On a work-related note, I think I have the final pass / optimization on how to close our company’s accounting records for March. This is a particularly tough calendar and the checklist that was given to us is one dimensional … that is you read down the page doing one step at a time. But, in reality many steps can be run simultaneously. Thus, I created a flow diagram that shows the step-by-step precedents, who can run them, and how long it takes. Then I played with the schedule so that I didn’t have two guys working two 18 hour days back-to-back. Overall the schedule looks pretty good. I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time on this. However, without my expertise and experience it would have been months before the team would have figured it out on their own.
Decy is working again today (Sunday). Its ok. Saturdays and Sundays are her biggest days at the salon. This is a start-up business and she needs to spend a lot of time there. I am being patient and supportive. It is the least I can do for her …. after her many hours, days, weeks, months waiting for me.
ciao ciao
