Georgie & Indo-Christmas
First, and foremost, as family members already know …. Georgie came through the surgery very well. On the intestine – it had NOT matured during the last six months. Thus, they had to remove about 8 inches, including his “temporary colon”. The Drs are very optimistic that he will have a full recovery and be able to live a normal life. PRAISE GOD !!! The surgery was supposed to last 2.5 hrs. After about 3 hours I inquired what was going on …. and why the delay … answer: They are circumcising him – OUCH, adding insult to injury. After 3.5 hours I inquired again what was going on … and why the delay … answer: There was a bit of swollenness in his appendix; so they decided to give him an appendectomy, being as he was already opened up. At that point I jokingly asked if they were also going to give him a tonsilectomy and pull his wisdom teeth !!!
Overall, surgery was about 4-5 hours. We got to see him in the recovery room. He was fussy (who wouldn’t be) but had pretty good color and seemed alert (albiet still under sedation). He currently has an IV feeding him. They won’t let him begin eating and drinking until his system calms down and he starts passing gas. As of 11am today (Saturday) he still had not do that …. it is currently 3pm and I don’t yet have an update.
Please continue praying for Georgie …. this is very much a step-by-step and day-by-day process. We still have a nervous few days to a week to see how his system responds. God willing, Georgie can go home sometime next week.
Today (Saturday, 5 December) is the day we celebrate the “Indo Family Christmas”. All the kids are on the way over as I write this. There will be food, playing in the pool, food, presents, food, karaoke, and food. In case you haven’t figured it out … there will be lots of food. Indonesians LOVE TO EAT and celebrate. This is an exciting time. As Paul, Chris, Courtney, Stacy, and Grandma Suzie know … these kids are sweet, wonderful, and so appreciative of everything. Decy’s brother’s and sisters will be coming over; as will Uncle Harry and Aunt Fitri. Also, Samanatha and Terry are joining us. Depending on when Terry arrives (has a commitment earlier in the day) he will likely play Santa Claus. Terry did this last year – he is such a wonderful Santa … he comes by it naturally. Truly a man with a sweet spirit.
Of course, this “Christmas” cannot possibly replace celebrating the same with my family in the US. We are all very excited about our travel to the USA … and it is now only 11 days away.
I continue to fine tune vacation travel plans (there are so many details) such as getting addresses, maps, directions, working out various transportation issues, etc. Its ok – I am glad to be doing that. Along this vein, I had to call United Airlines – seems they rescheduled our return trip which then had us routing as: Atlanta – Washington DC – Chicago – Hong Kong – Singapore – Jakarta. Most of this was not an issue except they had us departing WDC about 1 hour BEFORE we landed in WDC. I called United and they gave us the “oops”. We re-routed to go directly from Atlanta to Chicago – Yahoo !!! We also were able to upgrade to Economy Plus for the Chicago – Singapore return leg for $149 …. double yahoo !!! Economy is tough on me … and Thasya is getting tall too … so that is a challenge.
I still need to call United about one other thing – they called Aunt Norma the other day and wanted to talk to me urgently about a reservation. However, I don’t recognize that reservation number. I need to call them tonight after the family goes home.
On the dry cleaners – Decy went to get the last of my shirts back. The Manager came out and apologized profusely and gave us the 5 remaining shirts. Decy looked at them and they were absolutely perfect. She asked them what did they do differently. Manager’s answer: We dry cleaned them instead of laundered them. The Ah ha moment. They were SUPPOSED to have been dry cleaning them all along. No wonder the shirts were coming back dirty, grungy and with new stains … they were being cleaned in washing machines that had who knows what in them ….
The kids are here gotta go. Ciao ciao. GBU !!!!
