Georgie’s Status
Georgie continues to make good progress following his surgery. Late Sunday night they let him begin drinking sweetened tea from a bottle. Then on Monday he became very active and pulled the tube out of his nose (going to his stomach). This was similar to what happened as he was recovering from his seizure. Mid-afternoon Monday, George was allowed to begin drinking formula from a bottle. Drs wanted to hold him to 40 cc every 3 hours. But, that boy is a HUNGRY boy …. and 3 hours just wouldn’t do. Dolly was feeding him every 2 hours and even then he is not satisfied. Drs are watching closely to see how his tummy and intestines react. They don’t want to ramp up too fast and cause a setback. We are optimistic that his eating limits will be upgraded soon (today?).
With regards to his surgery, I have learned that for his intestine they “pulled through” a section of intestine past his rectum – with a little bit sticking out. I guess this is so the stitches and scar tissue is on the outside not inside. I hear that has left a little “rim” around his rectum. The Drs say that they will let him heal until about 10 days after surgery, which would be about Monday the 14th. At that time they will “trim” the rim – kind of like a circumcision. Not sure how many days afterwards it will be before they release him from the hospital. Thus, he will likely not be released until after we leave for the US. I also understand that because of this type of surgery they will need to tighten the rectum a bit – I guess with stitches. The whole thing sounds very complicated but the surgeon seems to know what he is doing.
Please continue praying for Georgie. He has gone through a lot … and still has more to go. He needs a lot of loving and holding right now (primarily from Dolly). This is very much a step-by-step, day-by-day process. But, God’s power is limitless and he can carry the whole family through this.
God Bless all of you. Ciao ciao.
