By the Numbers
The heavy workload is relentless. I know and accept that I will never work a 40 hour week. But, the non-stop work since I got off the plane from vacation seems a bit unreasonable. There has to be a point in time where I am not loaded up so much that I have to work 70+ hours a week just to stay approximately caught up. Further – this isn’t even the peak workload season.
I left work early on Friday (515pm) as I had made plans to meet with a new expat to explain about some of the Indonesian nuances and culture. Received a gazillion emails and SMSs during the evening that continued into and thru the weekend. Then, I spent much of the weekend working from home although I was able to avoid going to the office.
Came into the office bright and early Monday morning and soon was hit with a couple of new crises … and worked until 11pm – ending the day further behind than I started. The rest of the week probably won’t be much different in the sense of stress and activity – clearly I cannot work from 6am to 11pm every day this week.
*** On an entirely different note, the tailor that couldn’t quite get my dress shirts correctly fitted is quite a tenacious sort. Seems he wouldn’t give up – thus, he started all over … on Saturday he and his master sewer (a man, so seamstress doesn’t feel right) came to the house with a shirt. It fit absolutely perfect. The cutting and stitching quality as well as the fabric is fantastic … and the patterns and color are modern and not so “corporate white or off white” … thus a “beautiful work shirt” if one could ever exists. Now that they have the pattern figured out … they will make 3 additional ones. That then leaves me going through my old shirts and seeing which ones I want to replace and/or discard. The replacement process isn’t cheap – each shirt is ~$30, but the quality exceeds that of the Gold Lion’s I buy in Singapore at a cost of $45-50 each. Plus, many of my work shirts are approaching 8-10 years of age … its time to replace them.
Decy’s salon has done pretty well the last couple of day with a pickup in business. As we move towards / past payday things should uptick. Plus, she it working on several promotional campaigns. And, she continues to get new customers, not just returners. Thus, her clientele is building step-by-step. For example, one new customer is a doctor that lives in Villa Mutiara – the subdivision where Decy’s family is … which is right across the street from the salon. If Decy can win her over … there’s an opportunity to capture other local professionals.
Well family and friends … I need to close and work on some other things. GBU. Ciao ciao.
